Centerball Soccer Rules

Number of players: 1 - 4 players

Goal:

Score exactly 21 points within a pre-agreed time limit. If the time limit is reached, the team with the higher score wins. In case of a tie, a Center Shootout will be held (in the ABBA system, a single shot at the center decides the game). Before the game begins, the number of sets and the time limit for each set should be agreed upon.

If a player scores exactly 20 points, they cannot check out. Their score reverts to their last score.

If a player overscores, their score will revert to the last score.

Information:

The game begins with player 1 serving, with the supporting leg being behind the service line.

All players must stand behind the service line when serving.

The serve must be played from the hand without touching the ground. No drop kick!

The player can freely decide which target to aim for, however the serve must always be played diagonally.

If the player hits a target when serving, this is called an ace and the indicated points are counted.

Change of serve:

The information is changed after each hit.

If, after the ball hits the target wall, it goes directly out of bounds behind the service line without bouncing in the playing area, it is a fault unless the opponent touches or receives the ball. The serve then changes. If the opponent receives the ball, play continues as normal.

The target wall must be hit, otherwise the serve will change.

The ball must rebound from the target wall back into the playing field to be playable by the opponent. If the opponent cannot reach the ball, player 1 retains the right to serve.

If the ball remains in the front field, it is a fault and the opponent has the serve.

If a player touches the ball more than twice in succession, the opponent gets the serve. A rolling ball must be played directly and cannot be picked up. A bouncing ball, regardless of how high it bounces, may be picked up or received in the air and then played directly with the next contact.

Ball exchange:

If a serve does not result in an immediate hit, a rally continues until a player scores or makes a fault. Players alternate hitting the ball directly at the target wall while moving to try and score. The ball may only be played in the air within the marked playing area or behind the service line. The ball may be received in the air with the head, chest, or thigh, but must be played directly towards the target wall with a second touch. Handling is not allowed. If the same player hits the center of the goal after a previous hit, the previous hit counts double.

Foul:

The basic rule is that a player must not be obstructed by an opponent. Holding onto a player's jersey, blocking play without the ball, or remaining in the shooting lane to prevent a shot is considered a foul. The opponent is awarded a free kick.

The free kick must be taken from the designated kicking spot. Play does not restart with a change of possession after a missed free kick. The player who takes the free kick restarts play with a serve.

Obstructing or blocking the player behind the service line without the ball is also considered a foul. The opponent then gets the right to serve.

The rules of Centerball Soccer were invented by the game's creator, Uwe Schneider, in June 2004.
